YEREVAN. – The recognition of the Armenian Genocide has absolutely nothing to do with the respective demands being made.

Modus Vivendi Center Director, political scientist Ara Papyan, stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday. He recalled that the slogan of the Armenian Genocide Centennial is “I remember and demand.”

“The first part, the remembering, was quite a success,” Papyan noted. “The world media sector was full of information about those events, and the information was primarily impartial.”

In his words, famous American Armenian TV personality Kim Kardashian, and world-renowned French Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, public activist, and diplomat Charles Aznavour have played a significant role in this respect.

And as for the “demands,” Ara Papyan specifically stated: “To be honest, I don’t understand what we [i.e. Armenians] want. Many say that, first, the Armenian Genocide should be recognized, and then demands [be] posited.

“[But] genocide recognition is on the ethical platform; Turkey’s recognition of the genocide will change nothing. The policy of recognition, if it is carried out without defining our rights, is not only meaningless, but dangerous.

“We strain Turkey against us and gain nothing in exchange. If we are positing legal demands [before Turkey], there are countries which are also interested in it, and thus we gain allies.”
