Former Turkish President Abdullah Gul responded to incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s announcement that Gul was wrong to visit Armenia during his tenure as President.

Gul, answering the journalists’ questions, also reflected on the serving Turkish president’s criticism directed at him, reported Sozcu daily of Turkey.

The former president noted that, in all probability, Erdogan’s words were misunderstood because they were conveyed by a historian who had met with the president in office.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan had met with a group of Turkish scholars in order to adopt a new policy of Armenian Genocide denial. Following this talk, a participating historian informed reporters that Erdogan had stated that he considered a mistake on the part of Abdullah Gul to have gone to Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan at the time, since this visit, as per the current Turkish president, gave a trump card to the Armenians.
