YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Monday received a World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) delegation, led by WOSM Secretary General Scott Teare.

The event brought together representatives from the National Scout Movement of Armenia (NSMA) and the World Scout Committee members who conduct, from May 6 to 11 in Armenia, the meeting of the WOSM Eurasia Regional Scout Committee.

The President underscored the scout mission and its activities. He also highlighted the NSMA’s close collaboration with the regional and international scout organizations, and the holding of respective pan-Armenian and international events.

Sargsyan, in his welcoming remarks, reflected on the Messengers of Peace initiative of the international scout movement, and stressed that this is an extremely important program for Armenia, which seeks regional peace, stability and development.

The President also presented the ongoing efforts by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to achieve a pacific resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In this context, he stressed that Azerbaijan avoids participation even in the scout movement’s current apolitical seminar in Armenia.

Sargsyan added that Armenia makes efforts at the state level to enable the self-expression of the country’s youth.

At the ensuing talk, the WOSM Secretary General and all participants thanked President Sargsyan for the hospitality and the support to the scout movement in Armenia. They added that in October next year, Armenia is expected to host yet another major scout event, a regional conference.
