YEREVAN. – Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) membership and conducting full political activities in the European Union (EU) Eastern Partnership zone are incompatible.

Well-known Ukrainian publicist and analyst Vitaly Portnikov told the aforesaid to 168 Zham daily, as he commented on the expectations from the forthcoming EU Eastern Partnership Summit to be convened in the Latvian capital city of Riga.

“In his words, the RA [i.e. the Republic of Armenia] senior officials, especially the RA President deceives his people if he is announcing that Armenia has an opportunity to integrate or associate with the European Union at various levels.

‘“The countries that have already joined the Eurasian Economic Union can work with other countries and unions under certain limited rules; these are totally incompatible two integration processes.

‘“I believe the RA President has already made his choice; it is economic integration with Russia.

‘“Armenia cannot have economic, political integration with the European Union unless the country’s new authorities make a new decision and leave that union [i.e. the EEU],’ Vitaly Portnikov said,” 168 Zham wrote.
