YEREVAN. – Armenia-Council of Europe (CoE) cooperation is important for the ongoing reforms in the country.

The president of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, stated the aforementioned at Tuesday’s meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. 

The event is held in the NA.

“Cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe is the expression of the policy based on European values and shared history,” Sahakyan said. “We [i.e. Armenia] have assumed an obligation to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure the rule of law.”

In his words, Armenia has recorded progress in the system of governance, economic development, and fight against corruption. 

The Armenian parliament speaker added that civil society and free press are stable in the country.

“We continue working in that direction,” Galust Sahakyan assured.
