YEREVAN. – The number of judges in Armenia is small, and the country’s courts are overloaded.

Head of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia, Ara Zohrabyan, stated the above-said at Tuesday’s meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights.

The event is held in the National Assembly of Armenia.

In his words, six to seven judges fall for every 100 thousand people in Armenia, whereas this number is 21 in the European countries. As a result, the number of cases per judge is a lot, and this situation inevitably affects the quality.

“Accessibility to the Court of Cassation [of Armenia] is another problem,” Zohrabyan added. “This [judicial] body has limitations for accepting the case, but you can petition to the Constitutional or the European Court solely after passing through this [judicial] body.”
