The nations’ achievement of their rights has been difficult not solely in the South Caucasus, but in Italy, too, at the time, Italian Senator Sergio Divina told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Divina noted that he is quite informed about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as well as the Kosovo and Palestine issues, which are often compared with this conflict.

“There are no ready-made solutions, but there are diplomatic situations where solutions may be found,” he added.

In the Italian senator’s view, his native region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Northern Italy may serve an example for seeking and finding common solutions to conflicts between ethnic groups. In this region, the Italians, Germans, and Ladins had found a common ground over the course of time.

To the remark, however, that the Germans and other national minorities in Italy were not considered foreign elements, and they were not threatened to be exterminated, Sergio Divina responded: “We, at the time, managed to see to it that the matter would not reach to an armed conflict in Trentino-Alto Adige. (…) Autonomy is not an easy task. As we can see, it has to be achieved.”
