YEREVAN. – The Republic of Armenia (RA) national currency, the dram, gained sharp value Thursday in the foreign exchange market, reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“The sharp fluctuations are the ideal option for ‘making money’ on the exchange rate of the dram.

“The International Monetary Fund recently urged the RA Central Bank [CB] not to allow the dram to gain value and, making use of the seasonal factors, to buy [US] dollar from the market and replenish the [country’s] foreign reserves, which have reached the minimum level.

“But as shown by yesterday’s events, the CB did not even attempt to purchase cheap dollar from the market and replenish the foreign reserves, which it itself ‘pulverized’ in recent months.

“Perhaps, the sharp exchange rate fluctuations of the dram are very convenient for some,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
