Hovhannes Ghazaryan, who was considered the main challenger of Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s son in the forthcoming mayoral elections in Artashat, Armenia, has withdrawn his candidacy.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the Central Electoral Commission that Ghazaryan has dropped out of the mayoral race in the city.

As a result, solely one candidate, PM’s son Argam Abrahamyan, has remained in the running for the Artashat mayoral elections slated for June 7.

Earlier, another mayoral candidate, Garegin Hambardzumyan, had withdrawn his respective documents.

Ghazaryan told us that he is withdrawing his candidacy because Argam Abrahamyan will govern Artashat better. He noted that Abrahamyan is young, and he has all available levers.
