YEREVAN. – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, on Tuesday met in Lebanon with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Gebran Bassil.

The Lebanese minister stated that exemplary relations are formed between the two countries, reported the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Nalbandian and Bassil reflected on Armenian-Lebanese collaboration. The ministers also noted that the Armenian community of Lebanon is a bridge between the two friendship countries and peoples.

The interlocutors also discussed the Armenian troops’ participation in the peacekeeping mission in Southern Lebanon. In this connection, Nalbandian informed his Lebanese colleague that Armenia plans to increase the number of its troops that are deployed in Lebanon.

The two FMs also conferred on the ongoing developments in the Middle East, and underscored the need for consolidation of the international community in the fight against terrorism.

The talks between to two ministers also included establishing closer cooperation within the framework of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

In addition, Nalbandian briefed Bassil on the ongoing efforts by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to achieve a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Subsequently, the FMs of Armenia and Lebanon made statements for the press.

The discussions between Edward Nalbandian and Gebran Bassil continued during the official dinner in honor of the FM of Armenia.

On Tuesday evening, Edward Nalbandian paid a visit to the Embassy of Armenia in Beirut, where he met with the heads and representatives of the Armenian community organizations of Lebanon.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia concluded his visit to Lebanon and traveled to the Syrian capital city of Damascus.
