YEREVAN. – The ruling political party in Armenia attempts to keep its power at any cost, since it is sure that the people will not stand up for their rights.

Civil Accord union Governing Board member, Karabakh War veteran and former MP Sasun Mikayelyan noted the above-said at Saturday’s founding congress of the Civil Accord.

“The authorities realize that the matter of several insurgents can be resolved with their imprisonment,” Mikayelyan said. “[But] the [political] opposition also has contributed to this. They take the people out on the street, then they send them home empty-handed [saying] that greater masses should be assembled, in this way breaking the backbone of the opposition.”

The opposition member stressed that their objective is to become the political force that is capable of making changes in Armenia.

As reported earlier, Civil Accord Governing Board member, opposition Armenian National Congress bloc MP Nikol Pashinyan announced, at the beginning of the aforesaid congress, that the Civil Accord union is founding a political party, which will run in the state authority and local government elections in Armenia.
