YEREVAN. - Initiators of the protest against electricity price hike in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue have called for a mass meeting at 18:00 tomorrow.

“No to Plunder” initiative member Vaghinak Shushanyan said the protestors will hold a large meeting at 18:00 tomorrow, and have called for national mobilization. “I’d ask the police to refrain from taking any measures at night, keep calm and not hinder the protest. Our original demand was to cancel [the decision on electricity price hike], which hasn’t been met,” he said.

Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan was surprised at the protestors’ demand, saying they don’t want to apply any violence. He again stated the protest is unlawful and urged to stop the assembly, otherwise police will restore public order.

The protestors went on stating their assembly is lawful and stipulated by Constitution and they will continue the peaceful sit-in.

Despite the rain, the protest is going on at the moment. Celebrities and MPs have also arrived and will form a human shield between the police and protestors to prevent clashes.
