Belarus Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said protests in Yerevan are Armenia's internal matter and expressed confidence that the Armenian authorities will settle situation democratically.

He called not to dramatize the situation in Armenia, adding that “the government planned to take some measures that provoked public discontent”, TYT.By reported.

“It is absolutely clear that the leadership is displaying readiness for dialogue. If those taking to the streets do not perceive this, it is their problem. But I am sure that the situation will settle,” the Minister said during a media conference within the fifth meeting of the Informal Eastern Partnership dialogue.

Asked whether CSTO can impact situation in Armenia, the Minister said it is Armenia's internal matter, while the CSTO charter suggests that the assistance can be provided in case of external aggression and at the request of the country.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, for his part, said the government will absorb hike in electricity prices until evaluation is completed. A democratic process will continue, and human rights will be protected in Armenia, he assured.

Mass protest actions started in Armenia's cities following government's decision to increase electricity prices by 16 percent.
