YEREVAN. – I have no doubt that the protest movement at Baghramyan Avenue—in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and against the recent decision to raise the price of electricity in the country—will continue as a political reality, stated analyst Arman Navasardyan, at a press conference on Friday.

In his conviction, what occurred in Armenia should not have happened now.

“In my view, the foreign policy and diplomacy of Armenia is recording quite successful steps lately; I mean the diversified policy.

“We [i.e. Armenia] could become not solely a bridge between the two poles, but be useful for their rapprochement.

“Europe seems to want to use us as a Trojan Horse, and I know that the Russian political establishment also has very major forces which consider Armenia from this perspective.

“And suddenly in this situation, Armenia manifests itself as a police state. It is hard to imagine a more serious blow to our international standing.

“I don’t agree with those who say that this [i.e. the protest action at Baghramyan Avenue] is an apolitical phenomenon. Is it not a political phenomenon?

“Given the psychology of the masses, this movement can fade, but it cannot lessen in Armenia,” Navasardyan specifically said.
