YEREVAN. – In Belarus, the Armenian MPs urged not to politicize the ongoing demonstrations in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, and against the recent decision to raise the price of electricity in the country.

Vice president of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, noted the abovementioned at the NA on Friday, as he summed up the results of the Armenian parliamentary delegation’s visit to Belarus.

In his words, a trend toward politicizing this matter, an attempt to find a Ukrainian Euromaidan in Yerevan was observed in the foreign press.

“All this has nothing in common with reality. Our citizens have assembled there [at Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan]; everyone is concerned about the rise in the prices. For this reason, our President has ordered to conduct an audit [at the Electric Networks of Armenia Company, which supplies electricity to the country’s consumers], which will take six months.

“No political party leads the movement [in Armenia]; this is a struggle by the people who worry for their rights.

“We informed about this to all the Belarusian media with which we had contacts,” stated the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament.
