YEREVAN. – Ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction member Artak Davtyan believes that the new draft Constitution has numerous positive features.

The RPA MP, at a press conference on Friday, presented these positive aspects of the proposed Constitution.

“Especially, the [NA] factions’ role has increased substantially,” said Davtyan. “[Accordingly,] a faction gets the power to table a law initiative.

“The role of standing committees has also increased.

“In addition, with our current Constitution, the NA is presented as a legislature, whereas with the new Constitution, it will be a representative body.”

He added that, pursuant to the draft Constitution of Armenia, parliamentary seats will be allocated also for the national minorities of the country.

Despite these positive features, Artak Davtyan will offer his recommendations for the new Constitution.

Chapters 1 through 7 of the new draft Constitution of Armenia were made public on July 15. Accordingly, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
