YEREVAN. - The document on constitutional reforms aims to continue the power of [Armenia’s President] Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia’s “Founding Parliament” civic initiative leader Jirair Sefilian told Armenian News – NEWS.am today.

“Being a party leader, Serzh Sargsyan will try to make his power last by owning the riches of the country. This document brings the boorishness to the legal field,” he said.

According to Sefilian, the civil society must unite and boycott the project of constitutional reforms to get rid of this ‘regime.’

Sefilian said he had accepted the invitation of Paruyr Hayrikyan, leader of Armenia’s Union for National Self-Determination party, and came to take part in the first public discussion against constitutional reforms held in Yerevan’s Liberty Square, since the issue they are concerned about was also on the agenda.

According to him, in case of forming a united civic front, mechanisms to rise up the citizens will come about, which will not only frustrate the project of constitutional changes, but will achieve change of power as well.

The public discussion against constitutional reforms was held by Hayrikyan today in Yerevan’s Liberty Square. It was attended by “Founding Parliament”civic initiative members Zhirayr Sefilyan, Garegin  Chugaszyan, “Rise up, Armenia” civic initiative members Davit Sanasaryan, Andrias Ghukasyan, “Heritage” faction Deputy Head Armen Martirosyan and political analyst Hmayak Hovhannisyan. Those present in the square demand to not only stop the process, but also introduce systemic changes, right up to the change of power.

“Founding Parliament” will take part in the march to be held on July 30 by Armenia’s Union for National Self-Determination party, which along with other political forces will demand to stop the discussion process of constitutional reforms.
