YEREVAN. - “Rise up, Armenia” movement activists weren’t allowed to stage a sit-in on the paved oval in the centre of Yerevan’s Republic Square. The activists are demanding to revoke the decisions on electricity price hike.

Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan has just approached the protestors and proposed activists Andrias Ghukasyan and Davit Sanasaryan to launch the protest in another part of the square.

“Your demonstration is not permitted; we will not let you hold it here,” Osipyan said, noting that the police gives the protestors time to think and move around.

According to the protestors, they hadn’t informed about the protest beforehand, since their number did not exceed 100. In case their demonstration isn’t permitted, they are going to take to civil disobedience.

The police have formed a wall in the square, while the activists are walking at the junction of Vazgen Sargsyan and Nalbandyan streets, scanning: “No to electricity price hike!” Their movement across the traffic way has caused a traffic jam.
