YEREVAN. – President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, on Monday received newly appointed German Ambassador Bernhard Matthias Kiesler.

First, Sahakyan welcomed the diplomat to the NA, congratulated him on his appointment, and wished him fruitful activities in Armenia.

The parliament leader expressed the hope that, during Kiesler’s tenure, Armenian-German relations, especially the parliamentary ties, will further strengthen. He noted that relations between the friendship groups functioning in the parliaments of the two countries have invigorated, and mutual visits have become more frequent in recent years.

The Armenian NA President highly assessed Germany’s balanced approach with respect to regional matters relating to Armenia.

Galust Sahakyan also touched upon Armenian-German cooperation, stated that the Armenian youth take part in German educational programs and pay mutual visits, and the National Assembly is ready to receive two students from Germany, this year also.

The Armenian parliament speaker also expressed his assistance to Ambassador Kiesler in the programs which the German embassy will implement in Armenia.

Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, for his part, noted that friendly and close relations, especially in parliamentary cooperation, have formed between Armenia and Germany over the years.

The Ambassador also stated that he has a huge track-record in economic cooperation, and assured that, during his tenure, he will seek to use the potential that exists between the two countries.

In addition, Kiesler reflected on the foreign policy of Armenia, and noted that Germany will be glad to see Armenia improve its relations with all neighboring countries.
