YEREVAN. – Representatives of the Yezidi community of Armenia on Monday observed, in capital city Yerevan, the one-year anniversary of the ongoing genocide against their compatriots, and by the Islamic State in Iraq.

The Armenian Yezidi community members placed flowers to the monument eternalizing the memory of the victims of the Yezidi massacre at the turn of the 20th century in the Ottoman Empire and in the past one year in Iraq, and observed a minute of silence in their memory.

Chairman of the ‘“Midia-Shangal’ Yezidi National Union” NGO, Amo Sharoyan, told reporters that even though the Yezidis were often subjected to pressure, they have always fought for the preservation of their nation.

“We will fight so that an end is put to this crime being committed against the Yezidi people, and we will never forget the memory of the innocent victims,” Sharoyan specifically added.
