Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has decided to conduct an early parliamentary election in the country.

Earlier, Erdogan had stated that this voting would be held on November 1.

“Despite the negotiations conducted with all the [political] parties, a Council of Ministers could not be formed,” the respective statement reads. “That is why the President has decided that it is necessary to hold a new election.”

Snap elections will be held for the first time in the history of Turkey.

During the election campaign season, the country will be governed by a provisional government comprising members of the majority Justice and Development Party (AKP), and the pro-Kurdish “Peoples’ Democratic Party” (HDP).

The AKP had failed to form a coalition government after the regular parliamentary voting on June 7, and therefore the PM had returned the mandate to form a government back to the President.
