The streets of Batumi, Georgia, were under water as a result of Tuesday’s heavy rains and strong winds that struck the city.

Consequently, the first floors of buildings and the Batumi railway station were under water, and some city residents were left without electricity.

Armenia’s Consul General to Batumi, Aram Grigoryan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the heavy rainfall has not caused destruction, and casualties or injuries.

Grigoryan informed that the situation is calm in the city.

“The conditions in Batumi are such that the water is immediately absorbed, [and] goes underground via pipes,” said the consul general. “It’s almost dry now, albeit the water was up to the knees yesterday [i.e. Tuesday] night.”
