YEREVAN. - Stepan Melikov, 38, deported from Sweden about 10 days ago is Armenian but not citizen of Armenia, and he has no relatives in Armenia, attorney Vahe Sedrakyan who knows Melikov told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

“Stepan Melikov was born in Baku, but resided illegally in Sweden. When his term ended, he was detained and relevant authorities began sending inquiries to different countries to determine his citizenship. Armenia confused him with its citizen and confirmed Melikov’s citizenship. That’s why he was sent to Armenian, but he has nothing to do with our country and has nobody here,” the attorney said.

The only person the man knows in Armenia is attorney Vahe Sedrakyan. Melikov got to know him through his relatives.

Upon his arrival in Armenia, Melikov presented  the name of the attorney.

“Melikov is in the border zone of [Armenia’s] Zvartnots Airport; he hasn’t entered Armenia. I have applied to the National Security Service of Armenia so that they allow me meeting with him. Following this, we’ll send corresponding letters to return him,” Vahe Sedrakyan said, noting that currently Stepan Melikov has no status.
