YEREVAN. – Various surveys conducted in Turkey show that the positions of the country’s pro-Kurdish “Peoples’ Democratic Party” (HDP) have considerably strengthened.

Director of the Institute of Orientology of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan, noted the above-said at a press conference on Friday.

Safrastyan also reflected on Turkey’s early parliamentary election, which is slated for November 1.

“In fact, the scenario, which was carried out in Turkey, is a result of the calculations by this country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” noted the turkologist. “When he saw from the very beginning that the results of the June 7 [regular parliamentary] elections are not convenient for him, he contemplated holding early parliamentary elections, in the hope to be able to increase the votes of the [majority] Justice and Development Party [(AKP)] by a few percent, thereby getting a chance to form a government alone.”

Nonetheless, as per Ruben Safrastyan, the survey data by three different think-tanks show that the AKP will still be unable to achieve its objective.
