YEREVAN. – Factors of ISIS and Kurdish PKK seemingly didn’t impact the decision to call for early parliamentary elections in Turkey, Dr. Mensur Akgun, director of Istanbul-based GPoT think tank, told Armenian News – NEWS.am, commenting on the gridlock in Turkey’s parliament after June elections.

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) managed a victory, but lost the majority of seats for the first time since 2002, and was not entitled to form a government alone. Negotiations with other political parties were unsuccessful.

In this regard, snap elections are inevitable, the expert said.

Asked whether the AKP could initiate another round of talks, Akgun answered: “‎It seems that there is no turn back from the constitutional requirement. It is too late for another round of coalition talks. If nothing really exceptional happens, Turkey will be going to the elections on November 1. ISIS and PKK don't seem to play a role in the decision to go to election but they may have an impact on the outcome”.
