YEREVAN. - The Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender will soon give a clear and honest assessment of Armenia’s draft Constitution, Armenia’s Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am after the government session today.

“We’ll complete examining the draft [constitutional reforms] in the near future and give specific assessment, especially regarding those sections of fragments, which concern the human rights. The assessment may be both positive and negative, depending on our perception,” Andreasyan said.

Nevertheless, according to Andreasyan, even in case the Office considers something unacceptable in the draft Constitution, it won’t join the movements against the constitutional reforms.

“I mustn’t unnecessarily politicize the institute of the Ombudsman,” he said.

The draft constitutional reforms have already been submitted to the parliament and will be discussed at the very first fall session. According to the parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan, referendum over the constitution’s new edition will be held by the end of fall.
