It’s a known fact that Azerbaijan is a tyranny and the approach of both Karabakh people and authorities to democracy is quite impressive, European Free Alliance (EFA) President François Alfonsi said at a press-conference today.

From political perspective, Alfonsi, who has visited Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), was impressed by the adequacy of political forces. “We met with representatives of both authorities and opposition. We also managed to meet with the supreme leadership of the country. These meetings indicate that Karabakh people are ready to be engaged in the processes taking place in the name of democracy. This can be a huge political opportunity for them,” François Alfonsi said, stressing that Europe considers establishment of democracy its mission.  

According to him, Karabakh is evidently a rich region in terms of nature. “Apparently, Nagorno-Karabakh currently has many limitations in terms of economy. We are especially amazed by the airport, which is ready but cannot accept any planes. It’s very important that measures are taken to allow Karabakh “breathe economically” and establish contacts with Europe,” Alfonsi said, expressing hope that the EFA will manage to contribute to this.  

Even if there is a conflict, Alfonsi sees no reason why ties with Karabakh must be limited. “As to Karabakh people, they are battle-worthy not only and not as much from the military, as from economic and cultural points of view. This nation is proud of its country,” Alfonsi said.
