YEREVAN. – The border tension is a result of provocations by the Azerbaijani side, spokesperson for the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.

Three civilians, residents of Vazashen village, and a contract soldier were wounded as a result of ceasefire by the Azerbaijani side on Thrusday evening. Fortunately, they have no life threatening wounds.

“The adversary used small arms and mortars,” Hovhannisyan told reporters.

On the whole, the intensity of shots on the border and line of contact with Karabakh has reduced as compared with the previous days.

“We hope this trend will continue,” he added.

Speaking about the current tension, Hovhannisyn stressed the artificial character of the escalation, recalling that a couple of days ago the spokesperson for Azerbaijani foreign ministry spoke about implementation of the norms of the International Humanitarian Law, without mentioning that the actions of Azerbaijani side are reasons for tension.

According to Hovhannisyan, the Azerbaijani servicemen “staged” the shooting of a wedding and used their own provocation as an excuse to shell Armenian villages.

The result of the Armenian side's actions is clear – there is a panic in Azerbaijani villagers, they are leaving the regions, while Azerbaijani side sustains losses, although tries to hide them.

“Provocations of the opponent will not go unanswered. At the same time the Armenian side is doing everything not to permit further escalation,” Hovhannisyan said, adding that situation on the border at the moment is calm.
