YEREVAN. – The head of the Chinese government has ordered to study the socioeconomic aspect of the Iran-Armenia railway construction project, and also noted that this sector is a historical part of the Silk Road.

The Minister of Economy of Armenia, Karen Chshmarityan, told the abovementioned to reporters, after Friday’s Cabinet meeting, as he summed up the results of the Armenian governmental delegation’s recent trip to China.

In Chshmarityan’s words, China is interested in the construction of this railway, and if this project is deemed economically feasible for the country, it will agree to partially fund this undertaking.

“I believe that their response will not be delayed,” said the minister. “If it is deemed profitable for them, China will allocate [US]$3.2 billion for the construction of this sector.”

Karen Chshmarityan also noted that, during the talks with their Chinese colleagues, they also had discussed the Chinese companies’ involvement in the ongoing construction of the North-South interstate motorway, glass manufacture, and introducing new technologies in cement production in Armenia.

As per the Armenian minister of economy, the parties also conferred on the avenues for tourism development, and conducting Air China flights between the two countries.
