YEREVAN. – International organizations are not a fire brigade, and they can not respond to an hour or three in a mode of news wires, member of scientific and practical advice council of CSTO Alexander Nikitin said in Yerevan.

Asked about delayed response of CSTO in connection with the tension in Karabakh conflict area, expert noted that international organizations are in fact platforms where the countries meet.

“Not a single international organization can act better and faster than the member states,” Nikitin emphasized.

The task of international organizations is to stabilize situation by providing forum for necessary talks and using unique channels to reach the level of the heads of states rather than help the parties in case of conflict.

“In this regard, I think it is right when the international organizations first hold consultations with the UN or the OSCE, and only then develop their own position within the sub-regional organization. After all, the CSTO is not continental, not regional, but only sub-regional organization,” Nikitin added.

The only organization having universal representation in Eurasia is OSCE, he emphasized.

On Sunday CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha said the recent escalation on the border and shelling of Armenian villages is unacceptable.
