YEREVAN. – PACE Monitoring Committee gave positive assessment of Armenia's constitutional reforms, head of Armenian delegation Hermine Naghdalyan told reporters on Tuesday.

Earlier the constitutional reforms were approved by PACE rapporteurs on Armenia Axel Fischer and Alan Mill .

“The Committee adopted relevant statement on September 29, and I think it has become a final assessment of the positive dynamics that we were working for,”   Naghdalyan said. “We said that the fate of amendments will depend on results of referendum only.”

The committee noted that some issues in the proposed reform are politically contentious and hotly debated in Armenian society. The choice of political system is for Armenian citizens, and only for them, to decide in the forthcoming referendum. The committee therefore called on all political stakeholders to ensure that the referendum is conducted according to the highest democratic standards,” the statement reads.

On Monday Armenian parliament approved draft constitutional reform suggesting transition to parliamentary form of governance. The referendum will be held in December.
