Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom has already checked 4,500 components of the Armenian NPP, head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko told reporters in Yerevan.

“We have fully agreed the schedule of work. The Russian side has provided a grant of $ 30 million and a credit of $270 million to extend the term of nuclear power plant,” Kiriyevko said.

The NPP undergoes checkup under strict control of the Armenian and Russian experts and IAEA, he added.

The new power unit is scheduled to be constructed in the Armenian NPP in 2018. It is intended to be put to exploitation in 2026. To extend the operation of the current power unit until then, in 2014 Armenia signed an agreement with Russia on a credit and grant in the amount of $270 and $30 million respectively.
