The statement by the Iranian Vice President Hamid Baghaei, recognizing the Armenian Genocide committed under Ottoman Empire in 1915, is a statement of historic truth, MP from the Republican parliamentary group Gagik Melikyan told NEWS.am.

Welcoming Iranian official’s statement, Melikyan stressed such a high-ranking official could not make a spontaneous statement. “Baghaei’s statement is another evidence of the Armenia-Iran friendly relations and a high level cooperation between the two states,” he said.

Iranian official stated at the conference “Iran: victory bridge” that a hundred years ago the Ottoman Government committed genocide against a certain number of Armenians. Although the Ottoman Government does not exist now, Armenians demand official apologies and restitution from Turkey, Baghaei emphasized.
