YEREVAN. – The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party will join no one, and it has never done such a thing.

Secretary of the ARF National Assembly (NA) Faction, Aghvan Vardanyan, said the abovementioned at Friday’s NA briefings. He noted this in response to a query on whether the ARF will join the campaign of a political force that supports the proposed constitutional amendments.

“We are not the [political] party of anyone, and we have never been one,” assured Vardanyan. “We have defended and will continue to defend our truth. We believe that the constitutional amendments are more democratic, and our [respective] view is not dictated by anyone.”

The NA on Monday passed, and by a vast majority of votes, the decision on agreeing to hold a referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

And the President has set December 6 as Referendum Day.
