The European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELRD) is for immediate release of all political prisoners in Armenia.

The party appealed to the Armenian leadership. A statement issued by ELRD President Annemie Neyts particularly says that, being a CE member-country, Armenia must immediately release all the political prisoners, as freedom of speech and conscience is a fundamental principle of the CE.

Imprisoning people for political reasons and depriving them of the right to fair trials runs counter to the fundamental commitments of the CE member-states and will certainly hinder Armenia’s integration with the European Union (EU).

On August 17, the ELRD submitted the issue to the Armenian National Movement (ANM), which is an ELRD member.
