YEREVAN. – Iran-Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) cooperation will happen in two directions: The actual Iran-EEU cooperation, and the Iran-China participation in the economic, transportation, financial, and trading programs of the Silk Road.

Iranian Studies specialist Sevak Sarukhanyan stated the aforementioned at a discussion on Wednesday.

In his words, however, the creation of an EEU-Iran free trade zone is not in the near future because Iran concentrates on sponsored production of its market.

“But the situation is changing,” Sarukhanyan added. “Iran will liberalize its economic and trading system. (…) [And] if we take into account that Ankara will soon sign a customs agreement with the European Union, the possibilities Iran-EEU cooperation are broader than the possibility of Turkey-EEU cooperation.”

The Eurasian Economic Union member states are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and most recently, Kyrgyzstan.
