YEREVAN. – There is a situation in Armenia that could bring about revolution, and the people will demand a regime change, as of December 1 at Liberty Square—in Downtown Yerevan.

Vice chairman of the board of the opposition Heritage Party, Armen Martirosyan, stated the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

“Hate exists against the authorities in the country, and this could bring forth some processes anytime,” Martirosyan said. “Revolution does not happen in one day, but all this shows that a revolutionary situation cannot be avoided in the country. (…) No one wants bloodshed, but the authorities need to be prudent in this regard. There is a situation, and this situation must be resolved.”

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Tachat Vardapetyan, for his part, noted that although there is discontent among the people in each and every country in the world, the preaching of hatred against the authorities cannot lead to anything good.

“Pushing the public toward new shocks is not in Armenia’s interests,” Vardapetyan added. “I believe everything will go as normal, and this process [of proposed constitutional amendments] will have edges of solidarity.”

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be primarily the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
