STEPANAKERT. – The Sarsang Reservoir and Dam—in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)—are in very good condition, and they meet all international standards.

Davit Babayan, Spokesperson of the NKR President, stated the aforementioned. He noted this commenting, at Armenian News-NEWS.am’s request, on the latest pro-Azerbaijan move at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

“Foreign experts also have visited the reservoir numerous times, and they confirm our [respective] statement,” Babayan stressed. “As for the Azerbaijani hysteria in connection with Sarsang, the statements on the ‘unreliability’ of the dam do not correspond to reality, and they are another attempt at black PR.”

As for the fact that the PACE rapporteur on Sarsang Reservoir has not even visited the reservoir, the NKR President’s spokesperson noted that this rapporteur is doing what she is dictated by Azerbaijan.

“I regret that PACE is becoming a part of the corrupt system,” he added.

Davit Babayan also informed the NKR stands ready to accept those who express a wish to objectively study the situation.

PACE on Thursday published the draft report entitled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water” by PACE MP Milica Marković (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

The document will be introduced in the PACE Committee on Social Affairs.

The report specifically proposes to express PACE’s “regret” on the occasion of “the lack of regular maintenance work for over 20 years on the Sarsang reservoir,” which “poses a danger to the whole border region.”

Marković had refused to visit Karabakh and made such statements without getting familiarized with the site in question. According to her, the Armenian side had hindered her visit.

The Bosnian MP had also refused to write a visit request to the NKR President.
