YEREVAN. – The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Observation Mission for the forthcoming referendum in Armenia on constitutional amendments commenced its activities on Thursday.

On the same day, Head of Mission Yevgeny Sloboda met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian.

They discussed the referendum as well as the international organizations’ involvement in its preparation and conduct. 

Head of the CIS Observation Mission noted that the task of the CIS observers is to contribute to the holding of this referendum freely and democratically.

Press service of the headquarters of the CIS Observation Mission informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the observers on Friday met with chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia, Tigran Mukuchyan.

At the talk, the CIS observers were informed about the CEC activities toward setting up the referendum precinct commissions and training of their members.

Sloboda, for his part, noted that the CIS Observation Mission will carry out its activities in line with the precepts of political neutrality.

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.
