YEREVAN. – I am convinced that the people of Syunik will say “yes” to the constitutional amendments.

Governor of the Syunik Province of Armenia, Surik Khachatryan, who also heads the “Yes” campaign office of Syunik, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Saturday.

“The ‘Yes’ campaign is running exceptionally in Syunik,” Khachatryan said. “Come to Syunik, and you’ll be convinced.”

In his words, no one in their province trusts the opposition, and the proof of this, as per the Syunik governor, was the low-turnout rally there by the opposition “New Armenia” Public Salvation Front.

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be primarily the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
