YEREVAN. – People in Armenia have begun looking for jobs less through relatives and friends.

Head of the Department of Labor Statistics at the National Statistical Service, Lusine Kalantaryan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday. 

Kalantaryan stated this while presenting the results of their quarterly surveys conducted in the households in the country.

In case when 60 percent of the respondents were first seeking jobs through informal sources in previous years, this number has dropped to 30 percent in the third quarter of the current year.

As per the expert, now, the people seeking jobs Armenia first try contacting the employer directly.

She added that the youth comprise a particularly large number among the unemployed in Armenia. Accordingly, in case when the overall unemployment rate is 18 percent in the country, this is over 25 percent among the youth. 

The highest level of employment is among those between the ages of 35 and 44.

And contrary to popular belief, unemployed women are more than jobless men in Armenia, with 52 percent against 48 percent, respectively.
