YEREVAN. - 5 detained members of the “Red Card” initiative were released from the Central Police Station while ago. Administrative proceedings have been launched against them, the initiative member Paylak Tevanyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am, adding that they stayed at the station for 3 hours.   

According to him, they were detained without substantial justification.

In Tevanyan’s words, no physical violence was applied towards him at the station, but he was neither allowed to inform his relatives about his whereabouts nor phone his attorney.

He also said that the policemen didn’t inform him about his rights for a long time, since he refused to present himself.

Tevanyan’s noted that he and his four friends who received administrative fine in the amount of 50.000 AMD, are not going to pay the amount, since they think that “until thinks come to this, we’re sure revolution will start in the country.”

Dozens of initiative members launched a march from Yerevan's Liberty Square to the Presidential Palace to hold a protest in front of the building. However, the police didn’t allow them to approach the building, following which several clashed took place. Consequently, five activists were detained. However, according to the preliminary information, the number of the detainees was six.
