YEREVAN. – Iran actually want to become an intermediary in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and separate from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, which is engaged in this matter.

Analyst and former Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ambassador Arman Navasardyan, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday.

In his view, however, this aspiration by Iran is not so good for the Armenian party to this conflict.

“This is nothing new,” Navasardyan said. “Tehran does not explain in what format it wants to carry out the mediation mission. The situation may be exacerbated, since Turkey, which dreams to intervene and help Azerbaijan [in this matter], could likewise expressed such a wish.”

He stated that, aside from supplying oil and natural gas, Iran seeks to become not solely the top country in the region, but also a superpower.

“Taking advantage of the current situation, Iran wants to receive a decisive voice in the region,” Arman Navasardyan added.
