YEREVAN. - The central streets of Yerevan have exhausted their carrying capacity by almost 100 percent.

First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan said the aforementioned in the parliament today, introducing the Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program 2, which includes $112 mln 960,000

Thus, Yerevan needs a by-pass route, which will unload the traffic in the city center, he stressed.

The network of the central streets of Yerevan is about 240 km, 40-45 km being in the center. According to Areyan, their unloading is a task of primary importance.

He also noted that the new road will mainly cover empty lands: the section from Argavand village to Ashtarak highway, as well as that from the highway to Davtashen district will be built on sub-soil. “There was no road there before and now it will appear,” Areyan said.

According to preliminary estimates, there are about 220 units of legal property and nearly 300 unregistered ones in the construction area.  But, in Deputy Mayor’s words, those others will also get compensation for demolition.
