Turkish Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is unsuccessfully trying to call Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

“On January 29,  Russia once again violated Turkish airspace,” Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency quoted Kalın. “Subsequently, President Erdoğan is trying to contact Vladimir Putin, but the Russian side is not responding.”

On November 24, 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor nearby the Turkish-Syrian border. The warplane was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria. This incident led to the ongoing strain in Turkey-Russia relations.
