Armenia has developed a trade barrier – VAT from natural persons upon car import.

Tatyana Valovaya, Member of the Board (Minister) of the Eurasian Economic Commission in charge of the main directions of the EEC integration and macroeconomics, told the aforementioned to journalists at the Moscow-Astana-Yerevan press-conference today.

“We had such a barrier in Kazakhstan, which we later removed, but another one has now appeared in Armenia. And this shows how important it is for us to watch out for cases of non-tariff trade barriers,” Volovaya added.

In the absence of tariff barriers in the single trade space, it still remains possible to apply non-tariff barriers not allowed by the Eurasian Union rules.

There are cases when seizure or limitations can be legal, but many of them are very clearly prohibited, she said. In 2015, 80 of such barriers applied by different EEU republics were removed.

In view of a more effective monitoring, decision was made to keep a file on domestic markets. EEC Armenian member Karine Minasyan will be in charge of this task.
