YEREVAN. - Japan attaches importance to fostering cooperation with Armenia.

Special envoy for South Caucasus, Ambassador Toshihiro Aiki told the aforementioned at the meeting with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian today.

Welcoming the guest, FM Nalbandian attached importance to the further deepening of friendly ties between Japan and Armenia, as well as expansion of multi-dimensional cooperation in different spheres.

For his part, Mr Toshihiro Aiki stressed that his country attaches importance to promoting cooperation with friendly Armenia, which is backed by high-level interactions and reciprocal visits.

At the meeting, the interlocutors touched on the agreements reached during the Armenian President’s visit to Japan, regular consultations between the MFAs, cooperation between the friendship groups operating in the parliaments, cooperation in international organizations, expansion of trade and economic ties, as well a number of issues related to cultural exchanges.

FM Nalbadian praised Japan’s support aimed at the development of Armenia.

The sides exchanged ideas on regional and a number of urgent matters. Ambassador Aiki introduced the efforts exerted for the enhancement of security and stability in the Korean peninsula. The interlocutors also expressed concern over the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea, which is in violation of the UN Security Council resolutions.

FM Nalbandian also referred to the Karabakh conflict, presenting the situation in the zone of conflict, recent developments of the negotiation process, as well as the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and Armenia towards exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict.
