YEREVAN. – The Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is attempting to reduce its share of accountability for the situation in the country.

The secretary of  “Heritage” National Assembly Faction, Tevan Poghosyan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday. He stated this reflecting on the imminent coalition to be formed between the RPA and the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party.

“As of next week, there will be a coalition government in Armenia,” Poghosyan stressed. “[But] time will tell [whether] this coalition can contribute to the strengthening of economy, the solving of the problems of Armenia. I hope our colleagues in the ARF well realize that the voters will submit them an account before the parliamentary elections [to be held in 2017].”

The opposition MP noted, however, that the political processes taking place in Armenia will reflect on the model for passing to a coalition government.

“The constitutional reforms and the new model of governance contain an important matter: sharing real accountability,” Tevan Poghosyan added. “They [i.e. the ARF] need to understand what accountability they are assuming.”
