STEPANAKERT. - The issue of the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict was and continues to remain in the center of Armenian parliament’s attention.
Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Galust Sahakyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with Karabakh Parliament Speaker Ashot Ghoulian.
The delegation headed by Galust Sahakyan was composed of MPs Artak Zakaryan, Artak Davtyan and Tevan Poghosyan, Armenia’s National Parliament press-service reports.
At the beginning of the working visit, Sahakyan and the delegation members, accompanied by Karabakh parliament Deputy Speaker Vahram Balayan, visited the Stepanakert Memorial Complex. Sahakyan laid a wreath at the memorial of the freedom fighters, who died during the Karabakh War. He also laid flowers at their graves.
Following this, Armenian Parliament Speaker had a meeting with his Karabakh counterpart Ashot Ghoulian. During the meeting, Sahakyan stressed that Armenian and Karabakh state authorities have established close partnership in the recent years. In this context, the sides underscored the importance of the inter-parliamentary ties.
Referring to the Karabakh conflict, Sahakyan noted that Armenian MPs constantly strive to raise the awareness on Karabakh conflict on international platforms. He also praised the mutually beneficial cooperation between the permanent parliamentary committees.
For his part, Karabakh Parliament Speaker Ashot Ghoulian expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Armenian and Karabakh legislative authorities. Besides, he highly appreciated the contribution of the Armenian Parliament Speaker to this matter.
The meeting continued in an extended format afterwards, with the participation of MPs and members of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the Armenia and Karabakh NAs.
In the course of the meeting, issues of mutual interest were discussed, which related to the exchange of experience in the legislative activities, mutual visits, inter-parliamentary relations and budgetary programmes.
The Armenian and Karabakh NA Speakers summed up the results of the meeting at a joint press-conference.
On the same day, the Delegation led by the Armenian NA President Galust Sahakyan met with Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan. During the meeting the sides discussed a number of issues relating to the deepening and development of ties between the parliaments of the two Armenian republics.
