YEREVAN. – Russia will exert efforts to rapidly adapt Armenia’s economy within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted the abovementioned during his joint Yerevan news conference Friday with Edward Nalbandian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

He stated that Russia is the leading trade and investment partner of Armenia, and that despite the problems in the global economy, trade between the two countries has virtually not reduced.

In Lavrov’s words, successful Armenia-Russia cooperation was noted during his talk with Nalbandian.

“We support the plan of priorities of the Armenian side, and are grateful for the fight against terrorism and the good proposals in technico-military cooperation,” he added.

He said Armenia is Russia’s key partner within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

“We welcome Yerevan’s efforts to strengthen the standing of the organization,” Sergei Lavrov stated. “Within the framework of integration projects, the EAEU also has primary importance alongside the CSTO [i.e. the Collective Security Treaty Organization].”
